Friday 13th proves lucky for PKR Pro. Another win in the bag for welllbet!
Congratulations to welllbet who last weekend became the first winner of the PKR Forum Heads Up Champs after she defeated PoolGOD in a thrilling final.
Organised by forum stalwart mudbone, the knockout style event attracted 16 of the finest players from PKR who all had ambitions of taking the title. Some of the more familiar names to line up included Hall of famer ovnis, cash game shark flesicher123 and PKR Masters winner PirateNation, however after some exhilarating heads-up action it came down to PKR Pro welllbet facing PoolGOD in the final.
Both had looked strong in previous rounds and it was hard to choose a favourite before the action commenced with the PKR forums split on who would be victorious.
A topsy turvey affair initially saw PoolGOD look like he would be the one taking home the title, as he ground welllbet down to 600 chips, before she clawed her way back to the 1,500 chip mark. Finally after some edgy play, the first showdown took place at the 150/300 blind level with welllbet moving ahead after she hit a 9 on the river meaning her Q-9 held up against poolGod’s 8-8, with poolGod now sitting with just 1,000 chips.
Now with the taste for the action it wasn’t long until all of the chips were in the middle again with welllbet triumphant as her AS-3S beat poolGod’s 9C-10C.
Victory was even sweeter for welllbet as she usually only plays full ring games, however the Swede was modest as ever – “PoolGOD, I’d like to compliment you for a very good tournament result. To me you were totally unknown but really the trickiest opponent to play. With just a little luck you would have been the winner. I felt I couldn’t pick up any cards at all during this final, no pairs, no draws, no nothing…hated it. On top of that my timing with the bluffs didn’t work and I became a little passive. For some strange reason I still felt confident all the time, Friday the 13th has always been kind to me, so I knew I still had a big chance to come back. With one big call and some river luck I finally made it.”
