In action: Floating Phil
Here’s a hand I played against Phil Hellmuth in the 2011 WPT Malta main event. Blinds are 250/500 (ante 25)…
MP Lovgren Th10h raises 1,250
SB Hellmuth raises 3,250
Hellmuth bets 3,500
Lovgren bets 6,000
Lovgren shows Jh10h
I opened, Phil reraised and I called with position and with a hand that has potential to flop well. My plan was to try and win the pot on a later street if I missed. He checked and I checked behind. Phil often checks the flop out of position but I liked the flop and also felt I might be able to steal this pot later on. When he bet the turn, I had a clear feeling he wasn’t strong, which felt right when he checked the river. I threw in 6,000, he shook his head and folded. I had to show the Jack-high.
I almost never show bluffs but since it was the great Phil Hellmuth, I couldn’t resist! He is probably used to people making plays against him but he actually seemed quite frustrated.
