Estrella Poker Tour Grand Final ME – Almost three times the average stack after day 1
I’m even more in love with Barcelona now. This is one of the softest live tournaments I’ve ever played. There were 1,798 players in all, creating a €1,744,060 prize pool. We are 558 players going into day 2 and 263 players will get paid with the winner receiving €298,600. This is not only the biggest ever PokerStars live tournament, but the biggest 1k event ever held outside of the World Series of Poker in Vegas.
My starting table today looked like a dream. It was me and eight fishy middle aged men. I won the very first hand of the day which gave me a nice feeling! Then a little later a Spanish guy raised 300 in ep, a very spewy gentleman in mp. called and so did I with AJ on bb. The Flop was AcJc6 and we checked to the spewy gentleman. He bet 500, I 3-bet to 1.400 and he quickly said “coll”. The turn was an 8, I bet 2.100 and again spewy gentleman went “coll”. The river was a 9 and I bet 4.500. He thought a little and then “coll”. He mucked and looked surprised. I also won a nice pot with second pair TT later and after a while I had grinded my way up to 75K.
200/500/1.000. An old gentleman with a mustache raised 2k in ep, mp called, btn called and so did I on sb with As7. Flop A6s4s. The mustache c-bet 4,5K, a quite small bet compared to the pot, btn flatted and so did I. Good odds to peel with the Ace, backdoor flush draw and straight draw. Turn came a 7… Booom! I checked, the mustache bet 11,5K, btn folded and I went all in. He had around 25-30K behind. and tanked forever with his shivering mustache. Eventually someone asked for the clock. The very same second he tilt called and his AQ lost. I boosted up to 125K.
200/600/1200. Much later I again got paid with two pair. I raised 2.400 with A2hh in mp, old spanish nit called right after me, button called and bb called. I saw a beautiful flop Ad4d2 and c-bet 6,5K. Old nit called, and the other folded. Turn J and I bet out 11,5K and he called. River 3. At this point I was thinking he had a hand like AQ or maybe AK or a missed draw. His stack was around 30-40K at this point. I decided to make a small 10,6K river bet for value. He tank called and swore loudly in Spanish and pounded his fist on the table. My stack suddenly up to nice 160K. I lost a 6K pot in the last hand but finished on 167K with the avg being 64K after day 1a and 1b.
After a short night’s sleep and a late breakfast I’m now off to the casino to play day 2. We start 12.00 and as always I’ll keep you updated on twitter.
